An opportunity for TRAINEES to attend the flagship BPS Annual Conference and represent Counselling Psychology!
The Division of Counselling Psychology is offering an opportunity for two In-Training members to be fully funded to attend the British Psychological Society main Annual Conference to be held 18-20 April 2012 in London.
The Division wants to support trainees getting the most out of their training and offer opportunities to raise individual profile and to disseminate their work, while also enabling our In-Training Members to promote the profession as a whole. There will be many eminent speakers, leading academics and clinicians at the BPS conference - speaking on the themes of participation in sports and exercise, violence and conflict, language and communication, and psychology for the public and private sectors (see http://annual-conference.bps.org.uk).
In return for a fully funded place at the conference, you will be asked to act as a Divisional Trainee Representative at the event, helping to staff the stall where Divisional leaflets are distributed and where interested inquirers’ questions are answered for periods during the conference. You will be supported by members of the committee who will also be present for some of the time. All of this represents a great opportunity for your CV and the whole conference gives invaluable experience to take into your placement practice or research.
The funding will comprise 3 day registration, accommodation and travel expenses in accordance with the Society expenses policy.
If you would like to enter for this opportunity, to help us to choose, you need to submit a piece of writing electronically by end 20th February to DCoPNI@bps.org.uk. The piece is to be no longer than 1,000 words on either of the following themes:
A) Researching when training: Building a research identity in the early stages of becoming a Counselling Psychologist.
Or
B) From placement to professional practice: How my placement experiences contribute to where I see myself working as a qualified Counselling Psychologist (only types of placement should be named if necessary, not actual services).
Applicants must be In Training Members of DCoP and include their membership number at the top of their entry. Please also provide a separate attachment with your BPS number, email address, home address and phone number. Winners will be chosen by members of the Divisional Committee, and will be ‘blind’ assessed. You will be informed if you have won before the deadline for registering for the conference at the early-bird rate.
The two winners will receive conference funding and have their entries published in the Division’s web-based news, The Counselling Psychologist Forum. You can also sample London’s many delights while at the Conference! Further enquiries to DCoPNI@bps.org.uk.
